Microneedling
Care Instructions
Also known as Collagen-Induction-Therapy (CIT), microneedling works by controlled micro-trauma to the skin resulting in collagen production, lightening dark spots, smaller pores and smoother skin.
Prepare For Your Procedure
- To minimize potential bruising, it’s recommended to avoid alcohol and any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) before your session.
- Cease the use of any facial products containing salicylic acid, glycolic acid or retinoid acid a minimum of 3 days prior to your treatment.
- Eat a healthy diet of lean protein, fruits, and vegetables. Avoid processed foods and sugar. Increase water consumption. Low or caffeine free beverages.
- Work out prior to your appointment if possible.
- Discuss any allergies and all current medications with your provider beforehand. Let your CULT Aesthetics Clinic provider know if you are taking Isotretinoin or any Accutane type medications, have autoimmune diseases, bleeding disorders, uncontrolled diabetes, if you are pregnant, suffering from illnesses or infections, have active acne or with a history of keloid scarring or cold sores prior to your procedure.
- Please let your provider know if you have a social event in the next two weeks.
- Wash your pillowcase and makeup brushes the day before your procedure.
The Day of Your Procedure
- Please arrive at the office without make-up and a clean face. Pre-procedure photos will be taken. You should expect to numb for 15-45 minutes prior to your procedure.
- Topical numbing ointment or small lidocaine injections may be used to maximize your comfort during the procedure.
- If your micro needling includes Platelet-rich Plasma: Your provider will collect a blood sample from you and separate the components of your sample with a centrifuge. The sample of highly concentrated platelets will be used as the glide and re-injected into the targeted area.
- The intensity of micro needling can vary based on the procedure you select. A sterile cartridge containing tiny micro-points is attached to the device. Your provider will apply a thin layer of topical gel to your skin and select the appropriate treatment setting based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding, until the entire treatment area has been covered. This process results in thousands of superficial microscopic channels throughout the entire treatment area stimulating collagen production.
- A soothing mask will be applied after the procedure.
- Bring a visor or sun hat to your procedure for the drive home.
After Your Procedure
- A sunburn-like effect is normal. The skin will feel tight, dry, and sensitive to the touch. Do not wash face for 6-8 hours after the procedure. Treat skin gently, washing with a gentle cleanser, cool water, using hands only and pat dry no earlier than 6-8 hours after treatment. Redness or sensitivity might well be present. Some small bruising is common with PRP injections and may last up to 5-7 days, and swelling can last 2-4 days, depending on how aggressive of a treatment you received. Plan social calendar accordingly!
- If Exosomes were used during treatment. They must be applied 1-2 times post procedure depending on the amount left fter initial application. Discard bottle after use.
- Delay makeup application for 24 hours and ensure makeup brushes are sanitized.
- Stay out of the sun for at least three days post-treatment. When outdoors, wear a hat and a broad-spectrum 30+ sunscreen.
- Avoid strenuous exercises that cause sweating. Avoid jacuzzi, sauna, or steam baths for 24 hours after treatment due to open pores, or up to 48 hours if inflammation exists.
- If needed, sleep on your back with head of bed elevated to minimize swelling or pain.
DAY 3-5
- Peeling may start 3-5 days after treatment. You will notice skin dryness and flaking. This is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. Do not pick, scratch, or scrub at treated skin! Allow old skin to flake off naturally and KEEP SKIN MOISTURIZED AT ALL TIMES. For extra dry skin, apply moisturizer every two hours if needed.
DAY 5-7
- You may restart your regular skincare products and Retin-A once your skin is no longer irritated. Many patients have noticed continued skin improvement for months following treatment.
- For best results, we recommend follow-up and repeat treatments in 4-6 weeks and a series of 3-5 treatments depending on your personalized care plan.
- For any concerns or unexpected changes to your skin, please contact your provider at Cult Aesthetics Clinics directly.
- In the unlikely chance that you experience ANY of the following signs and symptoms: Increasing pain, redness, swelling, significant bruising or darkening at or around the treatment area lasting over 5 days, notable change in temperature to the skin surrounding the treatment area, drainage or fever over 100.5 F or ANY other concerns you may have any other unusual symptoms call your provider directly at the CULT Aesthetics Clinic.
