An Injector Explains: How does it compare to other neuromodulators?
Daxi, short for DaxibotulinumtoxinA, is Revance’s new neurotoxin product that sets itself apart as the first neuromodulator to have up to a six-month wear time. A toxin that produces longer-lasting results certainly sounds like a win.
What makes Daxi different?
According to Revance, Daxi’s unique blend of peptides achieve wrinkle and fine line correction that will call for “as few as two treatments per year” versus the three to four treatments per year that Botox and other toxins require.
That’s because Daxi is the “first and only neuromodulator product candidate with a proprietary peptide formulation.”
Meaning: Daxi is formulated so that the neurotoxin that paralyzes the muscle is attached to a peptide.¹ This attachment is what helps Daxi have a longer-lasting effect.
Daxi vs. Other Neurotoxins
Like other neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin), Daxi helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles on the face, leading to a more youthful, revived complexion.
The most significant difference between Daxi and other toxins is Daxi’s longer-lasting results. Patients who choose Daxi may be able to wait as long as six to seven months between treatments.
Are there any risks associated with Daxi?
Daxi may not be the best choice for virgin tox patients, as its longer-lasting effects take more time to wear off. Patients who are still determining their ideal neurotoxin dosage can initially opt for one of the shorter-lived products, such as Botox or Dysport, and potentially switch to Daxi after they’re comfortable with product amount and placement.
It’s imperative to choose a good injector when trying a new product. Make sure you establish a relationship with a provider you trust and who has proper education and training.
Like other toxins, ptosis (drooping eyelids or brows) and mild bruising are possible post-treatment.
How should I prepare for a Daxi appointment?
You should prep for your appointment just like you would any other toxin appointment. Come makeup-up free, with clean skin, and avoid blood-thinning medications for two weeks prior to treatment. Avoid alcohol for three days prior to injections.
What can I expect during my Daxi appointment?
A Daxi appointment will be similar to any other neurotoxin appointment. I’ll assess your facial movement and expressions to determine dosage and placement, and then we’ll inject your tox.
Like other toxins, Daxi will take about two weeks to fully kick in, so we’ll schedule a follow-up at that time to determine if a touch-up is necessary.
Regarding aftercare protocol, just make sure not to lie down or wear a hat for about four hours post-injections. After that, you may notice mild bruising, which should dissipate fully within two weeks.
Overall…
According to Revance, Daxi aims to “establish a new, premium, long-lasting neuromodulator category,”² a goal that will definitely change the tox game overall. More time in between treatments is what every Botox veteran has been hoping for, and it looks like the solution is almost here!
If you already have your neurotoxin dosage down stat, I definitely recommend giving Daxi a try as soon as we’re able to offer it. If you’re new to toxins, start with Botox, and you can work your way up from there.
